CBA at Eravoo Centre of Learning: Deconstructing play
Deconstructive play event using not a box
What happens when a box isn’t just a box? On 19th December, 2025, Vani and Aarushi from Children’s Book For All (CBA) co-facilitated a play and read-aloud session with 35 children aged 20 months to 5 years with their parents at a Eravoo Centre of Learning, Jayanagar, Bengaluru, as part of the pre-events for Makkala Habba.
Not a Box by Antoinette Portis was brought to life using movement, drama, music, and visual arts. We explored how an ordinary box can become a car, a mountain, a building or anything imagination allows. Children embodied these transformations, explored them through play, and expressed themselves through art in ways that felt safe and joyful. Children were invited to embody, transform, and create in ways that felt natural to them. One of the children said that they want to put a star as an ingredient on pizza while another one said that they loved listening to the story and see that a box can be so many things! We learned that when play became a language, curiosity leads the way & imagination opens doors to creation!
