CBA at Mysore: A reading circle on stories of partition
“Ishwar Allah Tere Jahan Mein
Nafrat Kyoon Hai, Jung Hai Kyoon
Tera Dil To, Itna Bada Hai
Insaan Ka Dil Tang Hai Kyoon” - the song with which we started the reading
Swadesh Nani walked from Lahore to cross the border as an 8-year old holding her mother’s hands along with her three other siblings. We wanted to know more about her stories of partition and the other people whose families lived through the trauma.
Uncovering memories of partition
We read the book ‘Roop and the river crossing’, beautifully written by Samina Mishra and illustrated by Shivam Choudhary. Each page of the book uncovered memories of pain, nostaglia and hope.
Together, we could create a space to hold our stories in a safe and loving space.
