Rediscovering my love for reading through children’s books.
Sonal Sanghamitra Growing up, I was surrounded by books of all kinds, shapes and sizes. So, reading came naturally to me. My earliest memory is that of my mother reading out loud to both my sister and I perched on either of her sides while running her index finger through the words and our eyes followed.
I remember that for the longest we had a monthly subscription to a children’s magazine called Magic Pot. Over the years, the subscriptions kept changing, sometimes to Amar Chitra Katha, Champak, Tinkle, Reader’s Digest however, what remained unchanged was my love for reading.
As the years passed, and “life” happened I grew out of touch with my reading habit. Only to stumble upon an ebook of The Little Prince, and rediscover my love for reading again!
And, as fate would have it I came across Children’s Book For All as a matter of chance, but stayed by a matter of choice. The community offered me a space to not just read children’s books but also reflect, rant and rediscover my inner child. The space held me, opened its heart to me and allowed me to embrace my most authentic self. The self that is able to access play, joy and curiosity.
Rediscovering my connection to self
So, it wasn’t just reading the books that was taking place but a sense of connection being formed with the members. And, somewhere along the way I realized that children’s books are not just for children, they are for everyone.
